Steven D. Spitz, DMD is a Prosthodontist and Implant Dentist. A Prosthodontist is a dentist recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA) as a specialist in restoring and replacing teeth. Dr. Spitz’s post-doctoral studies include a two-year, full-time program at the prestigious Harvard School of Dental Medicine/Boston VA Medical Center, and a General Practice Residency at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida. Dr. Spitz is also a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He currently teaches at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and is on staff at Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts.
As part of his dedication to helping his collegues, as well as the next generation of dentists, Dr. Spitz lectures nationally and internationally on the advanced applications of lasers in dentistry, with emphasis on implant dentistry.
Among his many achievements, Dr. Spitz has long been involved local and international levels with the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity and has been elected as an International Director at Large/US Region on AO’s International Board as well.
Locally Dr. Spitz is the immediate past-president of the Boston alumni chapter, serving alumni members and students of Tufts, Harvard and BU dental schools. He has been a Clinical Professor of Prosthodontics in the Department of Post graduate Prosthodontics at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Spitz has the distinction of being selected as one of “America’s Top Dentists” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America on multiple ocaccasionas. As a wonderful side project, Dr. Spitz was also chosen to restore a tooth believed to have been extracted from Benjamin Franklin.
Dr. Spitz received the Award for Leadership and Outstanding Contributions in Advancing Dentistry Through Laser Technology, 2004, by the World Clinical Laser Institute, and has obtained his Masters certificate in the WCLI.
Dr. Spitz is one of few dentists to be accepted into the Birthing of Giants® program. The Birthing of Giants program is an executive educational program jointly hosted by the world-renowned MIT Enterprise Forum, Inc., and the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO). Each year only 60 young entrepreneurs, each under the age of 40 and founders of their corporations, are accepted into the three-year program.
Dr. Spitz and Smileboston Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry were chosen as Boston’s Best Cosmetic Dentist, 2003 by Improper Bostonian Magazine and were mentioned as, “one of the most reputable places in Boston for cosmetic procedures” by Boston Magazine.

As a firm believer in utilizing the latest state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Spitz was one of the first dentists in the United States to successfully place dental implants with the use of Waterlase laser. This helpful tool surgically places and restores more difficult dental implant cases for patients who have been told they were not good candidates for dental implants.
Dr. Spitz is also considered a local authority in the advanced use of dental laser, dental implants and all aspects of dental care (Invisalign, sedation, etc.).
